So the Cattleman and I decided we were going to become totally debt free by following the Financial Peace University program designed and presented by Dave Ramsey. In this program he busts the common money myths that we as an American society believe (ex. You willl always have a car payment,) and how to get gazelle intense on eliminating the money you owe, EVEN THE HOUSE, so that you can build wealth, prosper and give.
Dave's theory is, if you live like no one else then later you to get live and give like no one else. Sounds awesome right? Well, it is you should check it out!
Part of the program is teaching you how to budget correctly and that the word BUDGET is not a dirty one.
One of the items we collectively chose to cut back on was the amount of money we spend on date night and going out. Even though we are gazelle intense in our cut backs we decided that in order to keep our sanity we still need to have date night.
So here is the game plan:
- Each of us plans the date every other week
- These dates need to range from free to only $25.00 (INCLUDING THE TIP!!)
- "Free" nights allowance can be put towards future adventures. Free means anything you already have on hand or literally don't have to pay for. i.e. you generally already have gas on hand so that doesn't count against your spending money and if you don't you need to fill up anyway :)
- No phone calls during the date (Cattleman runs a heifer development so he's bad about that..)
- Yes there are "free spaces" for a spur of the moment choice
- No this list isn't law just helpful ideas to keep from getting stuck in a rut but, the budget is!
I love this idea because it forces us to get creative and learn more about each other and what we enjoy.
Want to see what I've come up with???
- Pink are warm weather dates
